European Heritage on Lake Austin

In the heart of Austin, this Northwest Hills project embodies a modern aesthetic inspired by the city's vibrant energy and cultural richness. Curated Studio designers Lauren Taylor and Kakin Nichols worked in close collaboration with their clients to create a home that celebrates the dynamic spirit of Austin’s live music and artistic heritage. As active members of Austin’s design community, the clients brought a discerning eye and a fearless embrace of bold, statement-making design. The resulting space seamlessly balances sculptural silhouettes and daring color palettes, featuring thoughtfully curated seating areas designed for connection and custom pieces that elevate the home’s character. Highlights include a bespoke walnut record cabinet, black-and-white photography of iconic musicians, a playful Pierre Frey wallcovering in the powder bath, and a custom eggplant and orange rug anchoring the dining room. Each detail reflects Austin’s eclectic charm, culminating in a home that is as vibrant and layered as the city itself.

Perched above the serene shoreline of Lake Austin, this project in collaboration with DK Studio architecture was envisioned as a timeless retreat for a client whose years living abroad shaped a deep appreciation for classical European architecture.

Drawing inspiration from her life in Europe, the home was thoughtfully designed to reflect a sense of enduring elegance while embracing the natural beauty of its Texas setting.

Our team worked in close collaboration with the client and team partners to establish a cohesive foundation rooted in proportion, symmetry, and traditional detailing. Large cased openings, layered millwork, and refined stone selections were carefully integrated to evoke a sense of history, while maintaining a livable, modern sensibility.

Throughout the interiors, a curated blend of antiques and modern pieces creates a dialogue between old and new—honoring the client’s collected past while supporting her present lifestyle. Sopisticated, tonal palettes and richly textured materials were selected to enhance the home’s warmth, allowing natural light and lake views to remain central to the experience of each space.

Designed as both a personal sanctuary and a place for gathering, the home balances formality with ease—where classical influences are softened through thoughtful layering and intentional flow. The result is a residence that feels deeply rooted, quietly sophisticated, and effortlessly connected to its surroundings.
